ASTROMARÍTIMA is one of the pioneering
companies in the provision of marine support services
to the oil exploration and production industry on the
Brazilian continental shelf.
As from 1980 the company contracted the construction
of 19 supply vessels financed by the Merchant Marine
Fund. The ships were delivered during the period between
1982 and 1989.
In 1982, ASTROMARÍTIMA diversified its
business into the port support and inland shipping field,
founding the company CBR - Companhia Brasileira de Rebocadores,
currently CBR Apoio Portuário Ltda. At that time
it contracted the construction of two port tugs to operate
in São Marcos Bay at São Luís,
MA
In order to reach a level of excellence in its services,
the company decided to implement a Quality Management
System complying with the ISO 9002:1994 standard, achieving
certification in 1998.
In 1999 the company began the expansion of its fleet,
contracting the construction of a Platform Supply Vessel
with a US shipyard, which was incorporated in April
of 2000. During this period it also modernized four
of its vessels, jumborizing them and increasing their
power output, to attend to the needs of the company's
main client, PETROBRAS, which concentrated the greater
part of its oil and gas exploration and production in
deep waters.
In 2001 the company included the requirements of the
International Safety Management Code for the Safe
Management of Ships and Environmental Pollution Prevention
(ISM CODE) into its Management System, which was certified
by the classification agency Bureau Veritas.
In 2003, ASTROMARÍTIMA adopted the new
2000 version of the ISO 9001 standard in its Management
System.
